Bangkok the capital, is alive every moment of the
day. In the early morning the markets open and saffron clad monks

glitters in the rising sun and Wat Pka Kaeo (The Temple of the Emerald

shows to pulsating nightlife, of food, with everything from street

long-tailed taxi boats vying for space on the klongs (canals) and tuk
tuks and Mercedes competing for the roads. This is a vibrant
exciting city with so much to see and do.

Pattaya - located on a wide bay on
the east coast, this was once a sleepy
fishing village which has been transformed
into an exciting resort. With an array
of water and land based sports available, a
variety of things to see including sapphire
mines, elephant training camps, orchid farms
and secluded islands accessible only by boat
and a spectacular night scene. |

Phuket, an island on the west coast,
where the warm waters of the Andaman Sea lap
the fine, white sandy beaches. In the
main resorts there are plenty of modern
facilities, water sports and entertainment,
yet inland little has been touched by
modernisation, there are still forest-clad
hills, coconut groves and rubber plantation. |

Koh Samui a tropical island paradise

Krabi located on southern Thailand's east
coast with virgin beaches fringed with
towering limestone formations, this is an
area of outstanding beauty. The Krabi
coastline is dotted with rarely visited
tropical islands, waterfalls, caves and
strange rock formations. This is a

unhurried and many beaches can only be
reached by boat. Much of the province
has been designated national park, this
includes the Phi Phi islands make famous by
Hollywood as the location for the film 'The

Hua Hin,
this
resort was discovered in the early 1920's by
King Rama V11 as an ideal getaway from
Bangkok. The tranquil fishing village
was turned into a royal resort.
Today's visitor can spend sun-filled days on
the long beach or try one of the many
leisure activities on offer from
water-sports to golf. Hua Hin has a
large number of world class, reasonably
priced, superbly maintained golf courses.
In the area around the town you can discover
fabulous parks and peaks, caves and
waterfalls. In the evening take a
stroll, see the great variety of shops
before having diner in one of the
restaurants built on stilts into the sea
offering superb sea food. |

sporting or adventure enthusiast, Thailand
has much to offer. It is home to some
of Asia's best golf courses, white-water
rafting is available in the north and south
of the country, you can kayak down the
jungle-lined river Kwai, go Bamboo rafting,

more than a dozen white-water rafting
locations, most are not continual fast
churning rivers but sets of rapids followed
by stretches of quick but smooth water,
offering the opportunity for sightseeing as
well as adrenaline pumping experiences.
With lukewarm water, moderately wild rivers,
lush jungles and easy access, there is no
denying that Thailand is an ideal place for
fun loving travellers and white water
rafting enthusiasts. The eastern and
central region can offer good rafting
experiences but it is the northern part of
the country that has the most rivers
suitable of rafting. |
